Our reason for assessing students has to be grounded in a commitment to use the information in a way that helps us to generate greater success for them. Dehesa uses the data from these assessments to drive our goal setting and our classroom instruction.

Our teachers and administration monitor student progress through both summative and formative assessments including:

• NWEA MAP: Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) is an online test that students take at least four times throughout the year that provides the teacher with a measurement of a students understanding of the material being taught. This data provides the teacher with the ability to then make adjustments to a specific students needs, and provides insight into what subjects need more attention.

• CAASPP: A system intended to provide information that can be used to monitor student progress and ensure that all students leave high school ready for college and career. The CAASPP includes computer-adaptive tests in English–language arts and mathematics as well as paper-based tests for science.

• STAR Reading: An online assessment that provides data on students' reading skills.

• ELPAC: The English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) is the successor to the California English Language Development Test (CELDT). Beginning in 2017–18, the ELPAC is the required state test for English language proficiency (ELP) that must be given to students whose primary language is a language other than English.

• Reading Fluency Assessments: A reading assessment that is given multiple times a year to assess student progress.
